The San Diego Zoo has the largest colony of koalas outside of Australia. In 2009 and 2010, the Zoo celebrated the collection with Koalapalooza, one of three Discovery Days events in 2010. The Zoo has 52 koalas in its collection. Twenty of those live at the San Diego Zoo and 32 live in nine other zoos in Europe and the United States. In 2009, three koalas were born at the San Diego Zoo and four at zoos participating in our loan program.
