此波由Omicron變種引起的疫情來勢洶洶，聖地牙哥地區的數所主要大學裡，已經開學的宣布將繼續遠距教學，晚點再開放讓學生返校，還沒開學的也宣布先行網課一兩周，拖過一月中旬的疫情高峰期後再開學，也讓才剛打加強針的學生們多兩周發揮疫苗保護力的時間～！
加州州立大學聖地牙哥分校(SDSU)本周給學生的Email中宣布，網課將從1/19持續到2/4，預計將在2/7恢復正常的面對面學習，也就是說，在1/19開始春季班時，全校近35,000名學生都將上網課。同時，校方也要符合資格的教職員和學生在1/18前接受第三劑加強針。

加州州立大學聖馬科斯分校(Cal State San Marcos) 也在本周表示，自1/24開始的新學期將先在線上上課兩周，計將在2/7恢復正常的面對面學習。
While public health officials expect the surge to be relatively brief, the peak for California will likely happen in mid-January. In an effort to help protect the health of our communities, the first two weeks of classes will be online only.

至於已經在3日開始新學期的加州大學聖地牙哥分校(UCSD)，也在6日宣布由於此波疫情正值高峰，原定先上兩周的網課將繼續延長至一月底。1/31起再恢復面對面的親授課程。
